Ella had quite the adventurous weekend. She’s not always the first kid to try something, and though she’s had great days riding her bike, sometimes gets so nervous on it she can’t pedal. This weekend though, she was feeling bold.
On Saturday we went to REI in Bloomington (the Big REI), and they have a climbing wall that Ella is always asking to go on. We’ve checked before, and someone said that kids need to be 5 to climb. On this trip, Ella asked to check again, and they said that she was tall enough and that she could give it a try! She was very excited as she put on the harness and special climbing shoes. There was an instructor there helping her get hooked up and explaining how it works, holding on to the other end of the rope the whole time. Ella climbed twice, about 12 feet up each time, coming down with a big smile each time. Autumn even gave it a try, going to the top and ringing the bell!
Today (Sunday), we went to our friend’s Beth & Marty’s house for Beth’s birthday party. Marty and their son Marty both like to skateboard, and they have a double ramp in their backyard that Marty (the elder) built last year. Ella was interested in trying the skateboard, so Marty (the younger) helped her out. She tried a few times riding it standing up, and got a few feet each time, no major falls. After that, she had fun sitting or laying down on the board and riding down the ramps, having a great time.
