Get a bicycle. You will not regret it if you live. - Mark Twain

about the site

This is the family site of Bill & Autumn & Ella & Fiona. Thanks for visiting! Bill keeps another weblog at http://wjc.fidean.net because he's too lazy to get another domain. Contact Bill at bconnell at gmail dotcom.

My (Bill here) grandfather once wrote that he had this photography hobby and needed something to take pictures of, so they had some kids. We aren't so different; we've made lots of web sites for various things, but none have been so fun to do or as well-developed and maintained as this one dedicated to our family. The site exists on a large part to keep in touch with far-flung family, and comes from our experiences growing up. Autumn had computers in the house from a young age and was online early; I got into computers a little later (age-wise), but was interested in photography (with some of my grandpa's old cameras), writing and making websites.

Design and coding is done on Macs, generally with BBEdit along with Transmit and iPhoto. The few non-photo graphics on the site were probably processed with Photoshop or Graphic Converter. The blog is run through Wordpress, which I like very much.

There are probably some old pages that aren't up to snuff, but the better part of the site is Valid XHTML 1.0. The nifty buttons on the left are all CSS. If something looks funky in your browser, let me know. I might not fix it, but it'd be nice to know.

This site was running on old '97, the Power Computing PowerCenter Pro 210 until early February 05, when it started singing "A bicycle built for two" in its dusty closet. After that, it ran on an old Sun box generously donated by family. We won't claim to be experts, but Solaris is a pretty nice OS there. And the dual Sparcs weren't too shabby neither. Now (April '06), we're back on MacOS, with a mongrel blue & white G3 upgraded to a G4 chip, with lots 'o ram and disk.
